FAQs
All of my frequently asked questions are answered here

Yes! I love creating custom designs

The concept must be within my style. I accept concepts in Full Color or Black & Gray
-
My goal is to collaborate with my client for any custom work
-
Things to help the design process
-
Placement and approximate size in inches
-
Any other tattoos in the surrounding area that need to be designed around
-
Main subject/story/focal point
-
poses, expression, details
-
-
For full color, particular color palette/usage

-
Depending on your concept, I may ask you to come in for an in-person consultation
Can I create my own design with AI?
-
I am firmly against the use of AI in the art world.
-
I do not accept AI generated images as references or design concepts
-
I will not tattoo an AI generated image on you
-
I do not use AI generated images or prompts to create any of my designs
-
You will be blacklisted if you run any of my art/tattoos through generative AI
-
-
When sending reference photos, please send verified stock images, photos you have taken yourself, stills from movies/tv, tattoos from actual tattoo artists' portfolios, even simple rough sketches to give me an idea of the direction you want to go
-
Most references on Pinterest are now AI and can sometime be hard to distinguish
-
Look at portfolios of real tattoo artists. Portfolios can be found on Instagram or their websites
-
I offer complimentary in-person consultations to discuss the design process/creation. Just ask me :)
-
-
I am first and foremost an artist. Bring me your design concept and I'll create a unique design made just for you that is tattoo-able and looks good for a long time
Do you accept card?
-
I accept Cash, Zelle, Venmo, and tap-to-pay card for payment
-
I offer a 10% discount if the tattoo is paid in full with cash
Where can I park?
-
There are two lots on site at Black Lantern Tattoo
-
Behind the building there is plenty of parking and generally safer due to the room
-
In front of the building but be aware that cars out front sometimes drive unsafe in that lot (DoorDashers)
-
-
There are entrances to both lots on both S Bascom Ave and Camden Ave
Do you allow guests?
-
I understand needing support while getting a tattoo
-
There is very limited room so any guests can make the space cramped and uncomfortable. If possible, please refrain from bringing guests. Any guests will be asked to remain in the lobby or return at the end of the appointment session
-
Yes and No
-
Yes if...
-
You have booked matching/coordinating tattoos in back-to-back sessions
-
Your guest must be
-
18 years or older
-
Must be respectful of the shop and our artists
-
Must not coerce the client into any decisions regarding the tattoo
-
This is your tattoo! You make the final decisions
-
-
Any guests who are being disrespectful, who hover over the artist during the tattooing process, or is behaving poorly will be asked to wait in the lobby or leave until the completion of the tattoo
-
-
-
No if...
-
The guest is under the age of 18
-
Black Lantern Tattoo does not provide any childcare and does not allow any children in the shop
-
-
If there is more than one guest (who do not have tattoo appointments) they will be asked to return after the completion of the tattoo
-
Your guest is unable to behave themselves or keep unproductive comments to themselves
-
-
-
Remember this is a tattoo session, not socializing time with friends. Socializing with guests can make the tattooing process difficult and possibly take longer than necessary
Can I use numbing cream?
-
Contact me first if you would like to use numbing cream, even if you have used it in the past
-
There are a lot of unregulated and poorly tested creams that are available on the market. Do your research and be safe
-
Always do a small patch test of the cream that you have bought before the day of the appointment to test for allergies
What should I bring to my appointment?
-
Cash for the full amount of the tattoo or other payment that is set up and ready to go
-
There is an atm at the liquor store in our plaza and at the Bronco bar across from our shop
-
Please have Zelle or Venmo set up and ready to use if you plan on using one of those
-
-
Valid physical photo ID that shows birthdate, name, and photo
-
Valid driver's license
-
State license
-
Passport
-
-
Water bottle and any desired snacks
-
If we have a full day session planned, we will take a 30 min -1 hour lunch break
-
-
Additional optional items
-
Blankets, sweats, stuffed animals/pillow
-
Entertainment: headphones, book, phone charger, fidget toy, handheld gaming device (sound off)
-
What should I wear to the appointment?
-
Comfortable clothing that you do not mind being possibly stained with ink and allows easy access to the placement of the tattoo
-
Layers are good in case you get too cold or too warm
-
If you are getting a torso tattoo (ribs, chest, back), bring a zip-up hoodie for warmth and coverage
-
We can provide pasties
-
-
If you are getting a lower leg/ankle tattoo, I will ask you to take off your shoes and possibly your sock depending on tattoo placement
How should I prepare for the appointment?
-
Two weeks before appoitment:
-
Hydrate well!
-
Exfoliate every other day to remove dead skin cells (but not on the day of the appointment)
-
Moisturize with lotion to keep skin hydrated for easier tattoo application
-
-
Week of appointment:
-
Continue with hydrating, exfoliation, and moisturizing
-
Keep skin well. I cannot tattoo over scratches/cuts, sunburns, bruises, or skin outbreaks
-
-
Day before appointment:
-
Make sure to hydrate and get plenty of sleep the night before your appointment
-
Pack a bag with necessary supplies
-
Make sure you are ready with your form of payment
-
Purchase necessary aftercare supplies
-
Foaming or Liquid soap (Dial Gold preferred)
-
Unscented gentle lotion (Aveeno recommended)
-
-
-
Day of appointment:
-
Eat within one hour of your appointment and wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to where you would like the tattoo to be done
-
If you are getting a lower leg/ankle tattoo make sure you take off any socks at least 30 minutes before the tattoo to allow pressure marks from the socks to subside.
-
What do I need for aftercare?
-
Anti-bacterial unscented foaming or liquid soap
-
Dial Gold is the best. A gentle cleanser like Cetaphil works as well
-
Anti-bacterial to keep the tattoo clean from germs
-
Unscented to prevent irritation from harsh scents
-
Foaming or liquid only! Bar soaps can harbor bacteria
-
-
-
Ointment and lotions
-
Ointments such as Aquaphor, cocoa butter, and Hustlebutter
-
Gentle and unscented lotion, such as Aveeno, Eucerin, and Avène
-
-
Extra second skin
-
DermShield by Recovery can be purchased through Amazon in rolls or packs of 10
-
This is only necessary for large full color pieces or if you weep a lot after being tattooed
-
-
Do you do touch-ups/coverups?
-
I include one complimentary touch-up with each tattoo that I do
-
Allow your tattoo to heal for 6-8 weeks minimum to allow for full healing and settling of the tattoo
-
This complimentary touch-up is available for 6 months after the date of your tattoo
-
Any additional touch-ups or touch-ups after 6 months will be set at my hourly & minimum rates
-
-
Touch-ups on work I did not tattoo
-
This is a case by case situation
-
I must see the tattoo in person to assess if a touch-up is possible
-
Touch-ups on work that is not mine will be set at my hourly & minimum rates
-
-
Coverups
-
I tend not to do coverups, as it depends on what the tattoo is
-
Feel free to DM me on Instagram or email me a photo of the existing tattoo
-
I will schedule an in-person consultation with you to discuss possible ideas or I can advise you on another artist who may be able to do the work
-
-
Unfortunately some tattoos require multiple sessions of laser removal for a coverup to be possible
-
